St. JOHN 30th Anniversary T-Shirt

In celebration of our third decade, our soft cotton t-shirt features the St. JOHN 30 pig logo at the breast and our opening menu on the back, reminiscent of the band tour t-shirts which our co-founder Trevor made his name before St. JOHN (and created the iconic Frankie Says Relax garments). 

That opening menu was the source of astonishment and bemusement. Before the days of the internet, chefs describe finishing their shifts and driving across town in the small hours just to read the menu board next to the locked shutters. Fergus remembers, “in the first few months people would stand around their table unsure whether to sit down, crying "why have we come?! Look at this menu!” But there was something wonderful about watching people entering the dining room with trepidation, then seeing the smiles of pure uncomplicated pleasure slowly appearing on their faces as they take their first bites.” 

That journey from trepidation to pleasure is one that mirrors the journey of St. JOHN, with its apparent austerity and strangeness in 1994 to its beloved status in 2024, as people were first unnerved, then charmed, then ardent. This t-shirt expresses that ardency.
