Setting The Agenda
Spring is coming and our fields and gardens have certainly been watered in readiness…! Since this is my first blog post of the year, it seems appropriate to set the agenda with some cultural notes.
METAPHYSICAL ALCHEMY: THE SUM of its PARTS DINNER
As Aristotle told us, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In wine this is expressed through the alchemy of blends. Each region has their grand and ancient tradition of the assemblage, and each winemaker needs the highest intuition into the vagaries of vintage, varietal and vine. Those vignerons are the angelic sprites (some more angelic, some more sprightly) who conjure the mystic delights which we celebrate this April, as we explain how blended wines, and dishes too, become more than a sum of their parts. This dinner celebrates that alchemy.
St. JOHN CROSSES THE BRIDGE TO ROME
Some of you may have been lucky enough to see the Bridge Theatre’s latest critically acclaimed show, and those of you who haven’t yet may wish to be reminded that you have until April 15th to do so. Meanwhile, for one night only, the stage will be cleared and the pit will be filled not with actors and groundlings but with long feasting tables running the length of the boards.
NEW WINE CASE - THE MARCH SELECTION
March will be our season’s bridge, starting with the snow and ending with the delights of Easter. Our careful selection includes bottles for braving the cold, and takes you right through to celebratory bottles to prepare you for Easter.
SPRING BUBBLES Informal Wine Tasting
We restart our program of Informal Wine Tastings with a bang! Or rather, a fizz. Since most of us reserve sparkling wines for sparkling occasions, opportunities to try them side-by-side can be rare. But comparing styles is an illuminating experience, and here we will present six bottles to allow you to do just that.
