Pass the salt!
In Italy you must never pass the salt, it’s about marking you out for bad luck it seems, some folk will throw salt over their left shoulder should they spill the grains and in Portugal you are not allowed to put salt on the table. Well the latter is not superstition, but in fact due to a recent government edict to bring down the salt intake of their citizens, somewhat like the reason that we have not been able for some time to make some pigs happy with our leftovers, blanket action to get to the lowest common denominator, oh well.
