This is our little case of fun – wines that don’t conform to traditional wine making styles, most are new additions to our range. We have selected 2 white, 1 rosé and 3 reds. To start Au Creux de Nid Blanc a stalwart on our list; it is an experimental grape that is naturally resistant to disease, fresh and light. Then a contrast! Cuvée Georges from our new Jura producer –made in an oxidative style common in the region –gives a sherry-like, nutty, salty character. We find this wine has a freshness and weight that makes it a compelling wine. To a fresh, juicy and very easy grenache rosé from St Mitre – Papillon Rosé, unexpected as it is a single varietal, most rosé in the Provence area are blends.

Many of our reds have low levels of added sulphur, and this year it’s been rewarding to find several excellent examples that tend to have a more traditional flavour profile than many of the more natural styles. We have found that these in kept open for several days (in a cool place such as your fridge) the wine continues to improve. Lascaux have produced their Garrigues without sulphur additions. With much time spent indoors these days, we thought the newly arrived Chaintres Saumur Champigny Vieilles Vignes with its exceptionally rich and powerful Cabernet Franc fruit, low sulphur additions and organic approach makes it most unexpected and very compelling. Lastly, is a new cuvée from our friends at Chasselay –the wonderful Je t’aime mais je soif, made using traditional carbonic maceration and natural yeasts. It is savoury, a little tangy with fine, grippy tannins.
