Last month’s case was all about rebellion; but this month Easter approaches with all those familial commitments. This calls for a nod to tradition, but with the optimism of bright springtime. Here we are with a selection of classics to comfort and uplift.

If it’s spring lamb on Easter Day, here is our Claret! Classic, yes, but dispel those thoughts of stuffiness – this one is juicy, fine and just ever so drinkable – as is our Boulevard Napoleon old vine Grenache, made by ourselves in our little medieval winery in the Minervois. It is a season-straddler, great for those fresher nights but light enough for sunny days. And speaking of sunny that Grands Eparcieux, being a classic-styled Beaujolais, will be grand with a chill.

If the darker and richer are more your style the inky, plush Calcaire is just the thing, especially if there are more robust flavours on your Easter table; the same goes for that stunning Beaumont, a beautiful and moreish example of a Chinon which will benefit from decanting.

Bubbles for bank holiday gatherings: the crisp and clear Cremant d’Alsace! And if oysters are making an appearance, you must have a Muscadet – the salty, bright Moulin de la Gustais. Two classic whites, a Picpoul and a Sauvignon Blanc to keep everyone happy! And happier still, two Chardonnays – the broader, riper and less formal Macon Villages and the elegant, refined and textured Bourgogne Blanc.

And finally… what would springtime be without Rose? And what could be more classic than a rose from Provence? A case for all, from the fresh sunshine to Easter feasting.
