When we put together a case it often brings a smile, and this is certainly one of those happily pleasurable cases. Gresser’s Crémant will delight at the end of the day. The whites take you via Provence - the Viognier, with clean acidity and yellow fruits, sits in with the perennial Petit Salé. A blend of Clairette and Vermentino, this wine speaks of the land of the Calanques. Le Petiot is another favourite from the Loire - Sauvignon Blanc country! When first visiting Guillemot-Michel we encountered a bucolic landscape and lovingly-tended vines. The summer sunshine and a little altitude keeps the freshness in the air, producing great chardonnay. For that rosé moment we’re enjoying the 2019 from Chaintres and everyone loves the way Saumur-Champigny rolls off the tongue! As for our Beausoleil, it’s all in the name and 2019 was a good year.

On to the reds! With long summer evenings in mind, Chasselay’s La Platière is a richer style of Beaujolais, some plum and cherry and a little oak gives a comforting depth. Pithon’s M’P’tit Rouge from the Haut-Roussillon delivers high garrigue notes and a sense of the sea in the distance. There’s always time for Claret - made from 100% merlot, Sichel’s 1883 is soft, plush and sulphite-free. Above the Rhône, in Rasteau, Helen weaves his magic at Trapadis and the Perrières is, as we say, moreish! Lastly, when it comes to garrigue, battered tractors, animals and the good life, there’s Sabine and Olivier at Triballe. The Toutes Aures has notes of dark fruits, a hint of spice and some herbs on the breeze. What joyful reveries there are to be had in tasting these wines!
