To aid the spirits we must start with some sparkle. The Emotion Rosé - our quiet nod to the 14th - does just that. There is our Beausoleil too, crisp with notes of fresh red fruits. Pure cheer and delight! For a little extra winter sun, we have those whites from the South… Snuggled in the valley just above the village of Cassis, Dm. du Bagnol’s Blanc is a reminder of our annual vignerons’ lunch on the quayside (not this year, alas!). Ch. de Roquefort’s Petit Salé is our choice – a blend of Clairette and Vermentino and a hint of the sea. Now, a different sea to the West with two Loire whites to complement; Chaintres’ Les Genêts – a fine Chenin Blanc with citrus and purity and Vincent Ricard’s Le Petiot - fresh, grassy, with good acidity. Both bottles bring a lift in lockdown!

A wine that is popular on merit is Maison Sichel’s 1883 No Sulphur from the folk that have Ch. Palmer as their family estate. A Bordeaux for some winter fare! Next, two reds both with immaculate biodynamic credentials and the benefit of experience in these challenging disciplines; l’Hurluberlu, a Cabernet Franc from Sebastien David, and Eric Texier’s Chat Fou – a blend of four parcels, it’s juicy and bright with dark winter fruit. The Toutes Aures Rouge from Triballe is nowadays a centrepiece of the estate’s wines (together with the white). From the Languedoc-Roussillon we have Olivier Pithon’s latest release of Mon P’tit Pithon 2019. Lastly, master of his terroir - Peter Fisher - delivers his Revelette Rouge, with subtle strength and complexity to face those lasting winter days.
